Curriculum
The curriculum is everything to which a child is exposed to in school. There is knowledge to be gathered and skills to be learned.
We hope that the children will find the curriculum and school life interesting and enjoyable, and that they will develop a curiosity and desire to learn that will remain with them throughout their formal education and into adult life.
We value all our children whatever their background or ability and we expect pupils to show compassion, consideration and respect for others.
We know that children will enter school with different levels of academic, physical and social development. We aim to cater for different needs and for each child to achieve success and make progress. The success will be valued whatever the level.
THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM
WHAT ARE THE CURRICULUM SUBJECTS?
We follow the subjects of the National Curriculum: English, Mathematics, Science, Design Technology, Religious Education, History, Geography, Physical Education, Music, Art and Information Technology.
Parents will be told at the beginning of each term about the topics to be covered by the children.
In the Early Years Reception children follow the Foundation Stage.
Key Stage 1 caters for children in Year 1and 2
Key Stage 2 for the children in Year 3,4,5 & 6
Throughout teaching we try to develop an understanding and care for our environment; to develop positive attitudes to healthy living, to understand the importance of personal responsibility and what it means to be a good citizen.
Key Stage One/Two
At Holy Redeemer we have mixed age range classes. At the end of the summer term we discuss with parents the appropriate class for their child. We take time to consider both academic ability and maturity into consideration when deciding the appropriate class for each child.
Our Learning Support Assistants
We are very fortunate to have a group of very committed and experienced Learning Support Assistants who work in partnership with the teachers to support the children's learning.
Planning, Preparation and Assessment
Our teachers will have an afternoon per week in which time they will have time to prepare for the children's lessons. Our experienced LSAs will take over the role of educating the children and work as pairs to deliver the ICT in the computer room and to take part in a creative activity planned by the teacher.
Information Communication Technology
We are very proud of our new 17 computer ICT suite which is networked and gives the children the opportunity to access the internet.
